I'm Not There is Amazing!

Before I forget, Todd Haynes (the director of Safe, a movie which for some reason, its laserdisc cover, not its vhs cover mind you, gave me nightmares. you see there's this little skinny man in a full body suit (kind of like a fencer) walking across a field and something about the fact that this is the state he's in cause he's so scared of the natural world disturbed and disturbs me to no end. anyway go rent Safe!) As for I'm Not There, what I was most amazed by was how challanged I was by it. Meaning, I thought I'd seen everything wacky ze cinema had to offer. This movie is a truly original beast, and will demand multiple viewings. I come from the unique perspective of not being a big fan of Bob Dylan so I don't know his mythology and legend (despite seeing and enjoying Scorsese's No Direction Home just last year...) So I experienced purely as a cinema trip creating a legend versus it fulfilling the legend. Cate Blanchett gives another completely amazing performance. She just disappears, its kind of creepy. (to see her kind of meta example of this, watch her segment of Jim Jarmusch's Coffee and Cigarettes where she plays herself and her cousin or something, a real head scratcher. Sometimes I wonder if she looks in the mirror in the morning and has no idea who she is...) Another classic movie/music moment happened for me in this one as well with My Morning Jacket in the old west times with the Richard Gere/Billy the Kid/Dylan character. It came out of nowhere and really gave me the chills.
